GARFIELD — A state corrections officer was charged with abuse after a child showed up at school with bruised arms and legs.

Christine Tenchka, 34, was arrested Monday after authorities were alerted by the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced Tuesday.

Authorities did not identify the child or the child’s relationship to Tenchka.

According to state pension records, Tenchka has worked as a corrections officer for just under two years.

Tenchka was charged with fourth-degree child abuse and is scheduled for a first court appearance on Nov. 13.

New Jersey 101.5 did not know Tuesday whether Tenchka had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
