Woman Killed; Mountain Lakes Police Fatally Shoot Male Suspect

A woman has been killed at a Mountain Lakes, business complex and her suspected assailant has been shot dead after a prosecutor says the man fired at officers.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi said police responded to reports of shots fired Friday afternoon at the business complex on Route 46. He said police found a female employee fatally shot at one of the businesses.

The prosecutor said when officers approached the suspect, who was in a vehicle on an adjacent parking lot, the man opened fire.

Bianchi said the officers returned fire, killing him.

Many employees within the business complex had barricaded themselves within three buildings when the shooting began.

The names of the woman and the suspect were not released, pending positive identification.
