BEDMINSTER — Route 287 commuters will have a new ramp to use on Monday morning.

As part of the $24.5 million Route I-287/I-78/Route 202/Route 206 Interchange Improvements project, a new ramp at Exit 22A from Route 287 north to Route 202/206 south will open Monday at 6 a.m. The existing ramp will be closed all weekend to prepare for the traffic shift.

The biggest difference the new ramp brings is to eliminate the need to stop at the end of the ramp. Drivers will also not have to join a line to get onto the off ramp, according to the DOT. The new ramp ,which is just north of the existing exit, will also be a bit more elevated with a sharper curve. The existing ramp will eventually be demolished.

Future changes include moving the exit from Route 78 east to Route 287 north to the right side of the highway.

Two new bridges over Route 287 are also being built as part of the federally funded project. The project should be done in late 2019.
