Trenton cop busted on child porn charges

TRENTON — A veteran city police officer has been charged with possessing images of child sexual abuse.

Paul Marinelli, 52, faces charges of possession of child pornography after investigators said they found in possession of the images.

State Police said Thursday that its Digital Technology Investigations Unit probed Marinelli's online activity. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office obtained a search warrant for his home and confiscated several electronic devices that authorities plan to examine, State Police said.

Marinelli has been a police officer for more than 22 years. He was earning a base salary of $105,000.

He was being held Thursday at the Middlesex County jail awaiting a hearing.

New Jersey 101.5 did not know Thursday whether Marinelli had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
