According to ESPN, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has approached his mentor, Bill Parcells about coaching the team on an interim basis for the upcoming season. This is coming on the heels of Payton's one-year suspension sentence due to his involvement and lack of action taken regarding the Saints Bounty Program.

I have two issues here.

The first issue being that Commissioner Goodell should probably step in and say that Payton can't approach ANYONE that he thinks is right for the job as interim head coach. If someone is suspended from the team for any period of time, they should have absolutely no say or influence in what will happen in their absence. So this is really not a suspension at all if you think about it.

Second, Bill Parcells is one of the most overrated coaches in NFL history, and this is coming from a die hard Giants fan. Obviously, Parcells led the Giants to two Super Bowl victories during the '86 and '90 seasons which is all well and good, but he doesn't have much to show for before or especially after that. He's had winning seasons and has brought some teams deep into the playoffs, but he's made some poor decisions on the sidelines over the years and he's known for hijacking the front office and taking power over virtually every single decision the team makes on and off the field. If you remember Parcells' most recent endeavor in Dallas from '03 to '06, you know that isn't a good thing.
