Chilling 911 call reveals NJ husband’s panic as Chester therapist’s killing remains unsolved

CHESTER TOWNSHIP — Public attention has intensified over a Morris County therapist and new mother, stabbed to death in her own house last month, as law enforcement has remained quietly focused on the homicide.

Brooke Hanlon’s husband, James Conor Hanlon, called 911 around 4 p.m. on June 6, from the family’s Chester Township house.

911 recording captures desperate pleas for help

A recording of the frantic call obtained by New Jersey 101.5 shares how Conor Hanlon pleaded for an ambulance “right away,” saying he found his wife bloody on the second floor of their Pottersville Road home.

“I just found my wife, I don’t know what’s going on with her — CPR, I need CPR instructions!” Conor Hanlon urges the dispatcher.

In a six-minute, slightly redacted recording of the call, the dispatcher is heard repeating information and ultimately instructing Hanlon on giving his wife chest compressions.

“Oh my god, there’s a lacer - there’s a laceration in her [screaming] - I need you here immediately - I need you here immediately,” the distressed husband is heard saying.

The dispatcher urges him to focus and counts the husband through compressions for about a few minutes, until first responders arrive at the rural residence.

“I don’t know what to do, I don’t know - What the f***!” Conor Hanlon is heard saying, followed by “There’s blood everywhere.”

In between instructions from the dispatcher, Conor is also heard telling his wife “Brooke, I need you— no, no, no Brooke.”

Brooke Hanlon started a counseling career, then returned to NJ to start her family

The 35-year-old victim was a licensed professional counselor who had been practicing since 2015 — most recently with LifeStance Health, based in nearby Bernardsville.

She worked with a range of clients, from kids and teens to adults and families.

Just five years ago in June 2021, Hanlon, whose maiden name was Haggerty, married her husband, James “Conor” Hanlon.

Conor Hanlon works in construction as a lead on-site manager for a Somerville-based construction company.

He is a Massachusetts native — the couple met while Brooke Hanlon was earning her Master’s degree at Northeastern University in Boston.

As newlyweds, they remained in Massachusetts until buying their Chester Township house in September 2024.

They welcomed a baby girl the following year.

Their daughter recently turned one, after the death of her mother.

The Daily Mail reported that the toddler is now with her maternal grandparents, who also live in Chester, as confirmed by Brooke’s father, James Haggerty.

The victim’s sister, Paige Haggerty initially told Fox News Digital that the family is "living a nightmare” and that her niece is safe and being cared for by family.

Haggerty has since declined further comment, citing advice to protect the integrity of the case.

Investigators continue homicide probe without naming any suspects

Police have not publicly named any person of interest or identified any potential suspects in the homicide case and no charges have been filed.

Investigators have also not publicly shared whether a weapon was recovered, or any other details beyond the initial autopsy that confirmed it was a homicide.

People magazine reports that Conor Hanlon has retained an attorney and has been spending time in Massachusetts — away from the scene where he called for help after his wife’s slaying.

Fox News has shared photos of the husband, back in Boston, both getting gas in a truck and putting a trash can outside a house.
