
A Morris County therapist and new mom was killed in her own home — police ask for leads

CHESTER TOWNSHIP — Investigators have been working on the gruesome killing of a woman at her young family’s rural township home.
On a Saturday afternoon last month, first responders and Chester Township Police received a 911 call from a house on Pottersville Road.
A 35-year-old resident was found dead inside, after having been repeatedly stabbed.
Within a week, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office publicly confirmed the June 6 death as a homicide.

Detectives continue seeking tips in the Chester homicide
By July 1, law enforcement working the case issued a public plea for any information or possible surveillance footage from the area.
The victim’s identity, Brooke Hanlon, was shared by Chester Police, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Brooke Hanlon worked as a licensed professional counselor
Hanlon was a licensed professional counselor who had been practicing since 2015 — most recently with LifeStance Health, based in nearby Bernardsville
She worked with a range of clients, from kids and teens to adults and families.
Just five years ago in June 2021, Hanlon, whose maiden name was Haggerty, married her husband, James “Conor” Hanlon, Fox News Digital reported, citing the victim's sister.
The couple bought their Morris County home in September 2024 and welcomed a baby last summer.
Their daughter turns 1-year-old this month, Fox News Digital also reported.
Hanlon graduated from Wake Forest University and then earned a masters degree in counseling psychology from Northeastern University.
“Outside of work, Brooke enjoys traveling, reading, going to the beach, going to concerts, and spending time with friends and family,” according to the victim’s professional profile.

Authorities ask anyone with information to come forward
Aside from asking for tips, police have not shared any other case information, including whether there are any potential suspects.
