The New Jersey “bennies” scorecard for summer 2026

I call them bennies, you may call them shoobies, but here is their report card for the summer of 2026 at the Jersey Shore.

The Bennies Scorecard For The Summer of 2026

For the rest of this article, I will refer to them as bennies, because that is what I've called them all my life. Full disclosure, I used to be one.

But now, after living at the Jersey Shore for decades, I get to judge the unbelievable antics that some bennies provide us each summer.

My grades in each category will be a combined score for bennies overall, and not any benny in particular.

The Bennies Scorecard At The Jersey Shore For 2026

The grades are given with a great deal of love for those who come to the Jersey Shore each summer to support our local businesses, and the hope they can make us all chuckle a little, even if it is occasionally at our own expense.

We'll grade the bennies by category, and here are the scores:

Wardrobe - Summer 2026 was full of bathing suits that were ill-advised or no longer fit right, and the colors remained loud with the volume on high. And it's great to see some folks still choose socks with the flip-flops. Bennies didn't disappoint. Grade -A+

Driving - It came as a surprise to some in summer 2026 that the Asbury Circle was still round, and it's always refreshing to see that no tourists read the "right on red and jughandle" manual. Grade - B

Parking - No, a human still can't hold a parking spot unless they are actually in the vehicle. If you don't need transmission fluid, you can't hold a parking spot. Grade - F

Noise Level - "Hey Gina, did you leave it in the cahhhh"? was heard bellowing across the sand several times this summer, and the music was always loud enough to drown out the seagulls. Grade B

Overall, we give the bennies of summer 2026 at the Jersey Shore a B for general etiquette, but an A+ for loving to come to the Jersey Shore every summer.
