ASBURY PARK — The Asbury Park boardwalk has hosted everything from mermaids to zombies. Now the famous Convention Hall will play host to a special event for cats.

The first Catsbury Park Cat Convention is scheduled to be held the weekend of April 7 for what organizers are calling "the premier feline event on the East Coast." Details will be announced next month, but the event is expected to be a gathering point for cat lovers and "many of social media's favorite felines," according to the events Instagram page.

In addition to the internet celebrities, the two days will include information sessions and seminars on topics including cat rescues, feline health, as well as the latest products available for your favorite feline friend.

The city is already home to the Catsbury Park Tea House and Cat Lounge. According to its website, Catsbury Park is a nonprofit organization "with the goal of helping as many kittens and cats find loving homes through various channels." Catsbury Park was founded in 2016 and by November had already helped 90 cats find new homes.

"We also feel that Asbury park, our favorite place, needs a tea lounge and have focused on providing high-end tea service to provide the best experience for those who come to spend time with our cats," the groups website says.

Organizers ask anyone interested in a spot to email info@catsburypark.com. Further details are expected to be announced on Jan. 8 on the event's Instagram and Facebook pages.
