This Saturday night, Bill Parcells isn't the only New Jersey guy being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame this year. Let’s not forget Green Bay Packer left side linebacker Dave Robinson, one of Vince Lombardi’s finest players. After I wrote the story on Parcells, I received an unsigned email from someone pointing t

hat out. Here’s what they wrote..

Robinson, of Mount Laurel who later went to high school in Moorestown, was part of one of the best starting units of linebackers in NFL history.

Robinson was not only adept at defending the run but also against the pass. He intercepted 21 passes as a Packer, including five in 1966. Dave played on 2 Super Bowl Championship teams and won a total of 3 NFL Titles with the Packers (1965, 1966, 1967). His most notable game was in the 1966 NFL Championship game against the Dallas Cowboys when, on a fourth down play from the Packer two-yard-line, he pressured Cowboys quarterback, Don Meredith, into a desperation pass which was intercepted by safety Tom Brown in the end zone. The Packers won that game 34-27.

When Dave retired from the NFL in 1975, he finished his career with 27 interceptions for return yardage totaling 449, one touchdown as well as recovering 12 fumbles. Dave was named to 3 Pro Bowls in 1966, 1967, and 1969 and was selected for one of the linebacker spots on the NFL's all-decade team for the 1960s.

So, when you speak of bringing a "Jersey" feel to the NFL Hall of Fame, Dave Robinson should not be forgotten. We are all proud of his accomplishments here in South Jersey and so should all of New Jersey! I think all of New Jersey is, and if they aren’t , they will be now.
