EWING — State Police say a South Jersey man complimented a trooper in a letter after he was ticketed for speeding.

The agency wrote on its Facebook page Thursday that Dave Coskey praised the trooper's attitude after he was pulled over on the Garden State Parkway on Sunday.

Coskey says Trooper 7515 could've given him the ticket and walked away, but instead explained that they're trying to save lives, not just hand out tickets.

Coskey says the trooper told him they want people to slow down because there have been some deadly accidents recently on that section of the parkway.

The former head of marketing for the Borgata casino and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers says the trooper then escorted him off the shoulder and back onto the roadway.

His note added:

He finished by asking me as I departed to please use the shoulder as an acceleration lane and that he would remain behind me to help make it safe to re-enter the highway – which he did.

After having some time to reflect on our interaction I was just very impressed with his entire interaction. He seemed like a pretty young guy and it appeared that his comments and suggestions were nothing but sincere. I was really impressed with how he presented himself. I realize that the NJSP are trained to be professional – but I never expected to be blown away by an interaction with a trooper after being stopped. I’m sorry that I don’t have his name but I believe that his badge number is 7515 and his demeanor and actions are a credit to the State Police.
