Sean Patterson rushed for one touchdown and passed for another in the first half as Duquesne shut out Monmouth 16-0 on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak in the series.

The Dukes (7-2, 5-1 Northeast Conference) won for the first time in three tries at Monmouth, which is 0-4 at home this season.

Patterson capped a 72-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown run with 5:21 to go in the first quarter. An extra point attempt by Charlie Leventry was blocked, but Leventry kicked a 33-yard field goal with 2:04 left before halftime.

After recovering a fumble by the Hawks, who fumbled five times and lost three, Patterson promptly hit Isaac Spragg for an 18-yard score.

Larry McCoy rushed for 110 yards on 35 carries for Duquesne and Julian Hayes led Monmouth (4-4, 3-2) with 114 yards on 34 carries.

The Dukes outgained the Hawks 227-165 in total offense.
