HARDING — A plastic surgeon who lived lavishly while evading income taxes has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for ripping off the tax man.

David Evdokimow, 56, who ran his practice out of the Basking Ridge section of Bernards, set up phony shell companies to hide $5 million in income. Prosecutors said he failed to pay $3 million in taxes from 2006 to 2010.

The feds say Evdokimow used the cash to buy designer apparel, jewelry, vacations, artwork, and multiple residences, which he reported as business expenses.

He used bank accounts associated with the shell companies to cash $360,000 in checks from patients from 2009 to 2011, prosecutors said.

Evdokimow was convicted of defrauding the government and evading personal and business income taxes.

He already has paid the taxes he owes, but a judge fined him another $96,000. After he leaves prison, he will be under supervised release for a year.
