Thousands of airline flights have been canceled for this weekend, ahead of the first winter storm of 2016 to hit New Jersey and the East Coast.

According to Flightaware.com Friday morning, 2,544 flights within, or into or out of the United States had been canceled for Friday (and another 3,680 had been delayed). Saturday — when the snow is expected to have the most impact on New Jersey — was showing 2,565 delays so far.

All flights were reportedly canceled at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday. Some airlines were allowing passengers to change their flight plans if they are flying to or from some cities without paying a fee, according to the airport.

Newark Liberty and John F. Kennedy International airports were urging customers to contact individual airlines for the status of their flight plans. Some were waving fees for changing flights.
