Authorities have charged a Middlesex County history teacher at a Catholic High school with possession of child pornography.

Brother John Spalding, 74, a teacher and resident of St Joseph High School in Metuchen, has been charged with allegedly maintaining child pornography on a computer at the school on June 21, 2015, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement Thursday. Spalding surrendered to authorities at the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick Thursday and is being held on $75,000 bail.

Authorities say Spalding was charged with one count of possessing child pornography following a search of his computer was completed. Police launched the investigation after being contacted by an "unidentified official."
