Movie theater etiquette is apparently lost on some people in New Jersey

Please indulge me as I go on a bit of a rant here, but I do find it crazy that this is still a thing in 2026.

I went to the movie theater over the weekend and could not believe the behavior that I saw.

There were two couples to either side of me who apparently were having their first movie-going experience because they had no idea that what they were doing was completely obnoxious.

On my right side, the man and woman were talking through the entire movie.

Why can’t people behave in public?

For context, I was seeing "Obsession," which has very tense scenes that are dialogue-driven. Talking during the more disturbing scenes is not only distracting, it’s flat out rude.

Beyond just reacting to the movie, they were full-on having conversations.

Read the room.

Shush!

Then there was the young couple to the left of me.

Despite the obvious logic of “this is something you shouldn’t do,” audiences are told several times not to be on their phones.

Regardless of us having this explained to us, I could see the person’s phone for nearly half the movie.

I’ll give him that he had the screen brightness turned down, but that pretty much shows that he knew he was doing something wrong and was doing it anyway.

It's hard to believe that people are still this obnoxious in the theater. You can see that there are people next to you. Behave as such.

If it means staying out of theaters and avoiding dolts like this, the cost of Netflix or Amazon Prime is looking better and better to me.
