More details in police shooting that left teen hospitalized
TRENTON (AP) -- New Jersey officials have released more details on a foot chase that ended with a 14-year-old boy being shot by a state police trooper and a Mercer County sheriff's officer.
The shooting in Trenton occurred around 10:15 p.m. Friday, near Calhoun Street. Authorities say the sheriff's officer and two troopers were responding to reports of shots fired when they saw three males walking in the area.
When the officers went to question them, authorities say the 14-year-old ran off and was pursued by the sheriff's officer and one of the troopers. The other trooper remained at the scene with the two other males.
Authorities say witnesses reported seeing the boy reach into his waistband during the chase. A loaded weapon was found at the scene.
Both officers fired at the boy, striking him in both legs and the buttocks.
