Lauren Marrocco, a fourth-grade teacher at the Edward J. Patten Elementary School in Perth Amboy, received the award Wednesday during a ceremony in Trenton attended by state Education Commissioner Chris Cerf and other officials.

An East Windsor resident, Marrocco received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and her master's degree in educational administration and supervision from Kean University.

She has spent her entire 10-year teaching career at the Patten school, where she started as a first-grade teacher before switching to fourth grade in 2010.
