Arnold Ropeik, a longtime writer and senior editor of The Times of Trenton who was known for his columns that shined a spotlight on ordinary heroes, has died, He was 90.

The newspaper announced Sunday that Ropeik had died on Friday. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Ropeik held various posts at the newspaper during his 45-year career, which ended when he retired in 2006. But he was best known for the 22 years he spent as a columnist, writing on a wide variety of topics that ranged from people in need to fishing to politics.

A World War II veteran, Ropeik was featured in "Coming Home: The Veteran Experience in America," a 1998 documentary that aired on the History Channel.
