PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Sunday night that longtime player Darren Daulton died at the age of 55 after a battle with brain cancer.

According to a statement released by the team Daulton played for the Phillies for 14 seasons and was a three-time All-Star during his time with the squad. He was part of the team that won the 1993 National League Championship before ultimately falling to the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. He went on to win a World Series title with the Florida Marlins in 1997.

Darren was a true leader of men. The Phillies would not have gone to the 1993 World Series without his leadership," Phillies Chairman Emeritus Bill Giles said in the team's statement. "In addition to being an outstanding clubhouse leader, he was also a fighter. He battled through five knee operations to become an All-Star."

In 2010 Daulton was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame. In July of 2013 the team said he underwent surgery to remove two brain tumors related to glioblastoma.
