New Jersey's heat wave will not only bring heat and humidity but also smoke from wildfires in Canada.
The peak of the heat wave will be Wednesday with partly sunny skies, a breeze, humid conditions, and temperatures soaring close to record territory around 100 degrees, according to New Jersey 101.5 Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning, in effect for Wednesday.
There will also be the smell of smoke, potentially hazardous air quality, and orange skies as the smoke from Ontario reaches the United States.
Skies were already hazy in some areas of New Jersey on Tuesday with an incense-like smell.
The CBC reported 128 confirmed wildfires throughout Ontario as of Tuesday afternoon. Some of the fires are burning through very thick forest, creating even more smoke.
Canadian wildfires have been burning every summer for the past several years, sending smoke and haze towards New Jersey.

A 50-year-old Bergen County man is facing criminal charges, as police say he viewed and kept child pornography from the internet, created a deepfake of a minor victim, and also secretly recorded an adult intimate partner.
Brian C. Saracusa of Wyckoff is charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography and third-degree counts of possession of child pornography, creation of deceptive visual media, and invasion of privacy.
Saracusa is a married father of three and works as a television producer, according to his social media accounts.
The identities of the adult victim and minor subject of an alleged deepfake are not disclosed, as a matter of privacy.
After a weeks-long investigation, a search was carried out at Saracusa’s home on Tuesday, and seven digital devices were seized. At that point, he was arrested, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Investigators say Saracusa used the internet to create and distribute a computer-generated video of child pornography.

DUNELLEN — The owner of a Middlesex County daycare was charged after the state was tipped off that at least two children were given melatonin to help them sleep during naptime without consulting with their parents.
Cheryl Ambicki, 57, was charged with giving 10 mg of the supplement to two children ages 2 and 4 at the Precious Gifts Care Center located at St. Francis Episcopal Church after the New Jersey Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit informed the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
Four employees at the center confirmed that Ambicki administered the melatonin and kept it in a drawer in her desk. Before administrators arrived at the center, she told workers to hide the melatonin. Ambicki was charged with endangering-abuse/neglect of a child by care.
Court documents do not list an attorney for Ambicki.

🍎 A Freehold Township High School teacher is charged with sexually assaulting an underage student.
⚠️ Prosecutors say the relationship began in late 2025 and involved multiple Monmouth County towns.
➡️ Jesse Heubel is a well-known figure in his community and has tried his hand at local politics.
FREEHOLD — A teacher actively involved in the Monmouth County community is now accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.
On Tuesday, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said that Jesse Heubel, 37, had sex with the underage girl in his hometown of Englishtown, as well as Freehold, Manalapan, and Red Bank. According to investigators, Heubel's illicit relationship with the Freehold Township High School student began in November 2025.
Heubel faces five counts of sexual assault and four counts of child endangerment, all second-degree offenses. He turned himself in and was taken to the Monmouth County jail pending a court appearance, prosecutors said.
The teacher has been removed from all duties and from school property since his arrest, Freehold Regional High School District Superintendent Nicole Hazel said in a statement to parents.
🔗 Chilling 911 call: NJ husband's panic at therapist's stabbing
☎️ A newly obtained 911 call captures Brooke Hanlon's husband pleading for help after finding her fatally hurt.
➡️ Investigators have not announced any suspects, named a person of interest or filed charges.
🔴 Police continue to release few details as public interest in the homicide grows.
CHESTER TOWNSHIP — Public attention has intensified over a Morris County therapist and new mother, stabbed to death in her own house last month, as law enforcement has remained quietly focused on the homicide.
Brooke Hanlon’s husband, James Conor Hanlon, called 911 around 4 p.m. on June 6, from the family’s Chester Township house.
A recording of the frantic call obtained by New Jersey 101.5 shares how Conor Hanlon pleaded for an ambulance “right away,” saying he found his wife bloody on the second floor of their Pottersville Road home.
“I just found my wife, I don’t know what’s going on with her — CPR, I need CPR instructions!” Conor Hanlon urges the dispatcher.
In between instructions from the dispatcher, Conor is also heard telling his wife “Brooke, I need you— no, no, no Brooke.”
Police have not publicly named any person of interest or identified any potential suspects in the homicide case and no charges have been filed.
Investigators have also not publicly shared whether a weapon was recovered, or any other details beyond the initial autopsy that confirmed it was a homicide.
People magazine reports that Conor Hanlon has retained an attorney and has been spending time in Massachusetts — away from the scene where he called for help after his wife’s slaying.
Fox News has shared photos of the husband, back in Boston, both getting gas in a truck and putting a trash can outside a house.
