Christie took a brief walking tour through the city's Ironbound section Tuesday flanked by Essex County Executive Joseph Di Vincenzo and county Sheriff Armando Fontoura, both Democrats.

Di Vincenzo is the highest-profile Democrat to publicly endorse Christie. He said he has only positive things to say about Democratic challenger Barbara Buono but that Christie has helped Essex County's economy over the last four years and deserves another term.

Fontoura touted Christie's performance during Superstorm Sandy and his understanding of public safety issues as the former U.S. attorney in Newark.

Christie holds a large lead in the polls over Buono. He soundly lost in Essex County four years ago when he beat incumbent Jon Corzine.
