Boy Injured in Fall from 3rd Floor Window

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Newark police say a young child was hospitalized after he accidentally fell out of a third-floor window.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. Monday at a home in the 300 block of Orange Street.

Authorities tell The Star-Ledger that the 3-year-old boy was trying to retrieve a toy when he fell through a window screen. The boy's mother tried to catch him but couldn't reach him in time.

The child plunged about 20 feet and suffered a serious head injury and lacerations in the fall. But he was conscious and breathing when police arrived.

Further details on the child's condition were not disclosed.
