New Jersey knows a thing or two about zero-tolerance policies.

Remember in Sayreville, when four kindergarten students were suspended for using their hands as pretend guns?

And Jim Gearhart remembers another Jersey kid who got in trouble for a spitball.

"The police showed up at his house in the middle of the night and dragged him down. It's off you go to Scotland yard!" Jim says in the latest edition of the Jim Gearhart Show Podcast, available every Thursday on iTunes, Google Play and the New Jersey 101.5 app.

And now there's an incident in North Carolina — a 5-year-old girl was suspended for pointing a stick like a gun.

"Now even the dumbest, most brain-dead person, should he become a school administrator, would know that sticks do not shoot," Jim says.

But maybe it's time to apply this idea to the "Left-Lane Dick," which Jim defines as "the girl or guy — oh, I can't say that anymore — the humanoid" who rides the left lane when others are trying to use it to pass.

Maybe we should try caning here.

"Not only are you going to get his attention because he was punished, but you're going to get his attention, because if he has a sunroof, you're going to see his upper body through it — because he ain't going to sit down," Jim says.
