Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of a fire that killed a 44-year-old woman and damaged several unites of an apartment complex in Bridgewater early Monday.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, at approximately 4:25 a.m. Monday, the Somerset County 911 Communications Center received multiple calls from people reporting the fire, which broke out at 3514 Robinson Court in Bridgewater Township.

When they arrived at the location, police and fire crews had to force entry into a heavy, smoke-filled dwelling." Once inside, they located a victim later identified as Lisa X. Hook, 44. The woman was unresponsive and lying on her living room floor. Crews attempted CPR in an effort to resuscitate Hook. She was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Somerset where she was later pronounced dead.

"An autopsy by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Newark is pending," the prosecutor said in a press release Monday.

North Branch Volunteer Fire Company Fire Chief David Hickson told NJ.com that no other residents of the complex were injured in the blaze. One firefighter was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigation Forensics Unit along with investigators from the Bridgewater Township Police Department responded to the residence to assist in the investigation," the prosecutor said.
