PASSAIC — Dozens of firefighters are battling a fast-moving blaze that's damaged several units in a North Jersey apartment building.

The fire at the Gregory Plaza in Passaic broke out shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday, shooting out flames and large plumes of thick, black smoke that could be seen from miles away.

No injuries have been reported.

Authorities say several people who live in the building have been displaced by the blaze. They were being sheltered at a high school and were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross which said 43 families were displaced.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
