Middletown fire officials tell the Asbury Park Press that the blaze apparently started in a second-floor heating bed inside the Orange Skye Day Spa in around 3 a.m. Monday and quickly spread to the attic.

Firefighters were able to bring it under control in about 45 minutes, but the building had extensive damage.

One firefighter fell through the second floor and injured his shoulder, while the other was hurt in a fall outside the spa. Both were treated at a hospital and later released.

Authorities say no one was in the spa when the fire occurred.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
