HAMILTON(Atlantic) — Two people were killed in a head-on collision with a stolen vehicle on Saturday morning.

Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds says an investigation determined that the stolen vehicle caused the crash on Route 50 at Third Street in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township, in front of a Delta gas station, around 7:30 a.m.

An adult, Nayshaun Brown, 18, of Atlantic City and three juveniles face charges of conspiracy to commit second degree aggravated assault (bodily injury while joyriding), conspiracy to commit third degree joyriding, conspiracy to commit second degree eluding and conspiracy to commit second-degree theft by receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Brown is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Two of the juveniles are being held while a third was released by a Superior Court judge Sunday morning.

The victims were identified as Robert Barr, Jr., 54, and Alice Stilwell, 67, both of Egg Harbor Township. Their relationship nor the circumstances of the theft have not been disclosed. Reynolds repeated the message to lock vehicles at night and store key fobs inside a home.

New Jersey Attorney General investigating

A video of the crash shows an SUV with heavy front-end damage in the middle of the street. The other vehicle came to rest in front of the pumps at the gas station. It's not clear which is the stolen vehicle.

Unnamed law enforcement sources told NBC Philadelphia the vehicle had been stolen 16 miles away in Longport and was pursued by Hamilton police for a brief time before it was broken off. First responders arrived quickly to free the occupants of both vehicles, witnesses told NBC Philadelphia.

The Attorney General's Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is also conducting an investigation but did not disclose a specific reason. State law requires the Attorney General's Office to investigate deaths that occur during an encounter with an on-duty law enforcement officer.
