ELK  — A township man was found dead in his home Monday and authorities say he was the victim of a homicide

A relative found Michael A. Fazzio, 58, at his home Monday afternoon. Police say it appeared Fazzio had been assaulted.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said he had died of "mechanical and positional asphyxia." An office spokesman declined to elaborate.

Authorities did not say whether they had identified any suspects, only that no arrests had been made.

His obituary described Fazzio as a farmer, mechanic, hunter and outdoorsman. He worked for Frank J. Fazzio and Sons, a masonry firm in Pitman, for more than 20 years. Fazzio grew up in Pitman and was the father of a son and daughter.
