South Jersey Democratic Leaders Endorse Cory Booker
Democratic leaders from seven southern New Jersey counties have given their support to Newark Mayor Cory Booker in the special U.S. Senate primary election.
But that does not mean they will be raising money for him.
Several lawmakers and local officials gathered Wednesday with Booker to announce their endorsements, saying he has the best chance of the four Democrats in the race of winning the seat.
After the endorsement, Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald said local party leaders would focus their fundraising on November legislative races. He says Booker is a strong fundraiser on his own.
Greenwald says the local party organizations will mobilize volunteers to get Booker supporters to the polls in an unusual August primary.
The general election is scheduled for October.
