It’s our nature when someone helps us to want to give something back to say thank you. It’s who we are, it’s in our DNA as the song says. We in New Jersey have spent the summer proving that we’re stronger than the shore.

We’ve been supporting the stores, the businesses and of course the beaches. We’ve gladly given to all kinds of charities and fundraisers, not to mention our tax dollars. How about a little gratitude for all our efforts?

Wouldn’t it be nice, as we in New Jersey suffer though an incredible heat wave if the shore gave us a week of free beaches as a way of saying thank you for all the support we gave and continue to give them post Sandy?  They already do it in Wildwood and Atlantic City. I think it would be a win-win situation.

We’ve had politicians including Senate President Steve Sweeney come out against the idea of beach tag fees at all and I totally agree with them. But in this situation, we’re only talking a couple of days during a record heat wave where people who may not be able to afford the shore but paid for it with their tax dollars would be able to have a couple of days at the beach.

More than likely, the money that people could save would be spent on the local businesses anyway. The promotional aspect alone would be worth it. Businesses are all about good will, and make no mistake about it, the Jersey Shore is a business. Businesses could probably even write it off.  What better way to get people to come to the shore than to give them a day at the beach? A free day could go a long way. I look forward to your thoughts..
