KEARNY  — A man and woman held up a New Jersey Turnpike toll plaza on Monday, according to State Police.

The thieves hit the toll plaza at Exit 15W from Route 280 around 7:45 p.m. when a man and woman pulled up to the booth in a black, late model Toyota Camry with no license plate.  Police said the man, whose face was painted with military style face paint, got out of the sedan, pressed a knife to the man and demanded the cash drawer. The couple then sped off towards westbound Route 280.

Police said the suspect is believed to be a Hispanic male, standing approximately 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 200 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a zip-up, camouflage sweatshirt with maroon accents.

The female passenger is described as a Hispanic female in her 20s and was last seen wearing a yellow shirt or dress with a multi-colored tassel.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to State Police Newark Station at 732-441-4500 Ext 1430.
