A beautiful ‘reset’ for NJ: Rain exits, skies clear, and humidity drops

The Bottom Line

New Jersey's weather settles down for Wednesday. All watches, warnings, and advisories have been dropped at this point as Tuesday's potent storm system pulls away. Some residual fog, drizzle, and isolated showers may stick around through the morning hours, but breaks of sun will become more and more apparent as the day wears on. Humidity will slowly drop too, giving the air a less tropical feel by the afternoon. Thursday will become even more comfortable — downright refreshing, really — with sunshine and bone-dry air. The pleasant weather will carry through most of the final weekend of July. Rain chances will start to tick up again Sunday night.

Weather Hazards

For the first time in a long time, there are no major alarm bells to ring for New Jersey. No dangerous storms. No extreme heat. No poor air quality problems.

Climatological Context

July 22 is the 203rd day of 2026.

Normal high temperatures range from 86 to 87 degrees, while normal low temperatures range from 67 to 70 degrees.

July is, on average, New Jersey's hottest and wettest month of the year.

Wednesday

While Tuesday was a steamy, stormy day, Wednesday is a transition day. One of improving weather for New Jersey..

Radar is mainly clear across the state Wednesday morning. You may encounter some patchy fog, drizzle, mist, and isolated showers lingering through the morning hours, especially to the south. Temperatures are in the 70s — sticky. The atmosphere is still holding on to some thick humidity.

The good news is that the flip to nicer weather has already started. As Tuesday’s potent storm system pulls away, skies will slowly dry out and clear out through the day. Breaks of sun will become more prominent by Wednesday afternoon. And humidity levels will slowly dial back. The air should drop out of the tropical category, at least.

Wednesday afternoon will end up breezy and warm, with highs in the seasonable mid 80s. It is not a perfect weather day. But it will be much calmer than Tuesday.

One note for the Shore: Be careful in the ocean. The Jersey Shore Report shows an elevated risk of dangerous rip currents, with ocean wave heights up to 5 feet. Tuesday’s storm system is churning up the Atlantic a bit, so pay close attention to posted signs, flags, and lifeguard instructions.

Clearing skies and falling humidity will really ramp up Wednesday night. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to dip into the mid 60s.

Thursday

Thursday looks comfortable and downright refreshing. A beautiful day, from start to finish.

As high pressure builds in, skies will turn sunny, humidity will be low, and high temperatures land around 80 degrees. For late July, that is a fantastic forecast.

Given the dry and comfortable air, there will be no storms to track and no heat to worry about. After the steamy, stormy weather earlier this week, Thursday will feel like a breath of fresh air. One of the nicest days of the summer, perhaps?

Friday

Friday looks good too.

Expect sunshine eventually giving way to some afternoon clouds. High temperatures will bump up slightly, into the lower 80s. Humidity should remain quite low. And I continue to lean on a dry forecast.

Saturday & Beyond

The final weekend of July is looking good on balance.

Saturday will bring sun and clouds, with highs between 80 and 85 degrees. No weather issues for whatever outdoor activities you have planned.

Sunday warms up a bit more, with highs firmly in the mid 80s. Expect partly sunny skies through the day. Watch for rain chances to start ticking upward Sunday night. Additional rain chances and unsettled weather will move in for early next week. (But at least clouds and raindrops will keep any potential heat wave at bay, for now.)
