The owner and managers of two New Jersey-based dietary supplement companies have been sentenced to prison and ordered to pay $1 million in fines for ignoring a court order to suspend operations.

Mohamed Desoky, Ahmad Desoky and Omar Desoky operated Quality Formulation Laboratories and American Sports Nutrition. The companies made and sold protein powder mixes and dietary supplements.

They were found guilty in June of violating a court order to shut down operations. Inspectors allegedly found live and dead rats at the companies' facility in Paterson. The companies also allegedly mislabeled their products by not mentioning they contained milk, an allergen.

The companies allegedly continued to operate at a facility in Congers, north of New York City.

On Wednesday the three men received prison sentences between 34 and 40 months.
