PHILADELPHIA – A man who was attending college in New Jersey was shot to death during an argument with his girlfriend near Drexel University.

City police said they found the 21-year-old was lying on Lancaster Avenue near the Philadelphia campus just before midnight on Tuesday night. He was taken to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center.

The gunman, who had license to carry, and who police say intervened in the argument by shooting, was taken in for questioning, police told CBS Philly. It was not clear if he will be charged with a crime.

The dead student's identity was not disclosed by police.

The woman is a Drexel student while the man goes to a New Jersey college, according to CBS Philly.

The gunman shot three three times, police said.

Police said their investigation is ongoing.
