A Fairview man has been accused of hitting and punching an 8-year-old boy.

The boy was brought to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center by his mother for treatment of bruises and lacerations, and the hospital staff notified Englewood Police and the NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency,according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. In an interview, the boy said he was the victim of physical abuse by a male acquaintance, the prosecutor's office said.

Kenneth Carr, 43, was accused of hitting the boy multiple times with a belt and punching the boy in the chest. He's been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Carr was charged and held on $100,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail.

No charges were brought against the boy's mother, and the relationship between the Carr and the mother was not disclosed, according to the prosecutor's office.
