Since 1881 Lucy the Elephant has been a landmark in Margate.  Yes, Margate was ground zero when Sandy made landfall.

Last July I posted a story about the history of Lucy the Elephant for our Daily Day Trip series.  Following the storm I was curious to see if Lucy was still Lucy.

With all the heartbreak from this terrible storm, here's a bit of good news.

Lucy is OK.  The landmark's executive director, Richard Helfant said the six story structure suffered no structural or water damage.  Back in 1962 Lucy's wood superstructure was replaced with steel.

A great New Jersey landmark is still alive and will be around for generations to enjoy.
