An equipment problem at a Jersey Central Power & Light substation in Mount Olive is causing a power outage, a spokeswoman said Sunday.

About 2,300 customers, or 19 percent of those served in the community, lost power around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. About 1,000 customers had their power restored at 9:45 a.m., the spokeswoman from First Energy, which owns JCP&L said.

The equipment failure is believed to be weather related. The remaining 1,300 customers who have been in the dark this morning are expected to have power restored around 10:30 a.m., the spokeswoman said.

The company reminds people to avoid downed power lines and always assume they are live. To report an outage call 888-544-4877.
