According to this article, the 2012 rankings of the healthiest states in the nation are out and you may be surprised where NJ ranks on the list.

The rankings were based on the result of phone interviews and determining factors included smoking,obesity, binge drinking, graduation rates, air pollution, violent crime and health insurance, among others.

Here are the Top 5 healthiest states in the country:

1. Vermont

2. Hawaii

3. New Hampshire

4. Massachusetts

5. Minnesota

New Jersey can be proud though, as the great Garden Sate made it into the top 10, ranking 8th, beating out neighboring states New York (ranked #18) and Pennsylvania (ranked #26).

The bottom 5 states were  South Carolina, West Virginia, Arkansas, with Louisiana and Mississippi were tied for last place.
