New Jersey Natural Gas has a longstanding tradition of not only serving customers but also serving the community as a whole to help residents live fuller, more rewarding lives. One way they are doing that this summer is by highlighting local charities through their sponsorship of our Asbury Park Boardwalk Studio.

This month, they're highlighting Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County. Leaders of this nonprofit believe that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live. They also believe with a little help, everyone has the potential to stand on their own.

Habitat is known for building homes but not everyone knows that the qualifying homeowners pay an affordable mortgage for these homes, and they also put many hours of “sweat equity” into volunteering. As Habitat likes to say, “A hand up, not a hand out!” They also help elderly and disabled homeowners maintain independence by building wheelchair ramps and handrails through their Ramps and Rails program. Volunteers build and install these under the supervision of Habitat’s experienced construction staff.

Another program aimed at helping low-income families is A Brush with Kindness — families struggling to maintain the exterior of their homes can apply for help with minor painting and repairs, and landscaping.  Habitat serves 87% of Monmouth County and is always looking for volunteers for their programs, and also to work in their Restore in Freehold, check out their website at habitatmonmouth.org to learn how you can get involved!

And remember, we'll be broadcasting live from the Asbury Park Boardwalk Studio on the afternoons of July 16 and Aug. 20. Stop by Ocean Avenue and 4th Avenue, say hi, and get your picture taken with us!
