SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A good Samaritan rescued a driver from a car after it drove into a retention pond off Route 1 on Friday morning.

The car plunged into the 8-foot-deep pond on the southbound side in front of the Islamic Society of Central Jersey after the driver swereved to avoid another collision in front of her, to according to South Brunswick Police.

Video posted to Twitter by the department showed the Hyundai went through a wrought iron fence and into the pond.

Driver Stephanie Trent, 42, of South Brunswick was able to get out of the 2013 Honda Accord on her own. Edgor Yudkin of Jersey City, who was involved in the initial crash, helped Trent swim back to land, police said.

Trent was transported to St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of minor injuries.

A special tow truck was brought into pull the sedan out of the water.
