Academically, these 10 middle schools are listed as best in NJ

Many variables factor into the equation to determine the best schools.

But the most important part of that equation is student performance, and that's the sole measure used in a 2024 list of the best middle schools in New Jersey, from U.S. News & World Report.

The publication uses the same methodology at all grade levels — U.S. News added elementary and middle schools to its lists in 2023. For each school, U.S. News assesses the share of students who were proficient or above proficient in state assessments on math and reading/language.

Half of the list's formula uses the scores themselves, and the other half incorporates those results in the context of the demographics of the students being served.

According to U.S. News & World Report's data, below are the 10 best middle schools in New Jersey, academically.
