NEWARK — Two city teens were charged with carjacking Sunday and police say they are still searching for three others in connection with the incident.

Dontrell Hicks, 19, and DeShaun Thompson, 18 were charged with carjacking after a total of five youths forced a 54-year-old man from his SUV at gunpoint and fled the scene, then crashed into parked cars while being chased by police, according to NJ Advance Media.

Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose told NJ Advance Media that the incident was reported by the victim and took place at about 1:45 a.m. on varsity Road. Patrol officers located the stolen vehicle, a silver 2004 Honda CRV, which crashed on Irvine Turner Boulevard, the report states. Hicks and Thompson were apprehended but police told NJ Advance Media that three other suspects escaped.
