Video posted by Andrzej Skoczek on his Facebook page shows the truck coming to rest on the driver's side of both cars. Bystanders told those inside that help was coming. The garbage did not spill out of the hauler, but the windshield popped out of the cab.

"Thank God for watching over me," Skoczek wrote.

The Patch said police identified the deceased as Brian Claussen, 27, of Old Bridge.

Police have not yet returned messages to New Jersey 101.5.

A witness told NJ.com the truck was going up a hill when it fell off the ramp. Michael Lynch said he helped a "young passenger" out of the back of one of the cars.

Route 440 northbound was closed for several hours creating backups back to Route 1 on Route 287 in Edison.
