FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP (Hunterdon)  —A small plane flying between two local airports crashed as it began to make its approach on Saturday night.

The Piper PA-28 with three people on board was preparing to land at Sky Manor Airport in Pittstown when it crashed on Pittstown Road in Franklin around 10:45 p.m. according to the FAA.

The Quakertown Fire Company said on their Facebook page that the plane caught fire and that fire crews used foam to put out the fire.

The three on board were taken via medical helicopter from Sky Manor to Morristown Medical Center and St. Lukes Hospital near Bethlehem, PA. according to the fire company. The pilot was identified as Kyle Dalrymple, and two passengers, Clinton Campbell and Wendy Race, according to NJ.com.

The FAA is investigating the crash.The NTSB will determine probable cause.
