Monmouth County law enforcement officials take an Asbury Park man into custody after barricading himself inside a Neptune City apartment for over eight hours today.  Police from Neptune City and surrounding communities evacuated the Brighton Arms III complex on West Sylvania Avenue and closed off several streets after 7 a.m. when police were told that an armed man was hold up in one of the third floor units.  There were no hostages taken.

The Monmouth County SWAT team also arrived and attempted to negotiate with 43-year-old Romero Howard. When that failed, they threw in tear gas and waited as Howard emerged 20 minutes later after 3 o'clock.

Howard faces weapons, criminal restraint and aggravated assault charges. Reports say the stand off began as a domestic dispute.
