The Somerville Circle was reopened early Tuesday afternoon after an overturned tractor trailer caused a traffic nightmare for commuters earlier in the morning.

Raritan Borough Police said the truck was carrying a combustible material and overturned around 7 a.m., blocking access to the circle from Route 206 from all directions. Police had expect the cleanup and closure to remain in effect until at least 6 p.m.

Both the Raritan police and fire departments responded to the scene along with the Somerset County Hazardous Materials team.

Police do not know what led to the overturn. No charges have yet been filed nor the driver identified according to police.
