Anesthesiologist Samuel G. Caruthers of Mountain Lakes was charged with assault for punching a 12-year-old boy and striking him with the end of a ski pole at a North Jersey ski area in what has been called a case of "ski rage."

NJ.com reports the 44-year-old was angered after the boy “fell into him” and his son on Sunday at Mountain Creek ski area in Vernon. Caruthers lawyer, Robert Dunn, told the news site that his client did not intend to hurt the 12-year-old. "It was more in the nature of an accident. My client is sorry for any misunderstanding,"

Police charged Caruthers with second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child according to NJ.com. He was released pending a court appearance.
