A two-vehicle accident has left all northbound lanes completely closed on Route 9 in Middlesex County.

The early afternoon accident Tuesday closed the road between Old Bridge-Matawan Road (County Route 516) and Jake Brown Road in Old Bridge, causing delays for several miles approaching the area. One southbound lane is open between Fairway Lane and Ticetown Lane.

Pictures from the scene show a sedan and a mini-van involved.

Other details were not immediately available from police.

NJ Transit tweeted that bus service traveling on Route 9 northbound through Old Bridge has possible 15 minute delays.
e
Leslie Hochman, who lives near the scene, said the accident "is one of the worst I have seen in a long time."

Fast Traffic's Bob Williams said that Route 79 and Route 34 are good alternatives around the closure point.
