MAPLE SHADE — A former school resource officer has been arrested and charged with the sexual assault of an underage girl, according to authorities.

Louis J. Baselice, 67, of Maple Shade is charged with second-degree sexual assault and third-degree child endangerment. Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia Bradshaw said he was arrested on Tuesday at the Maple Shade Police Department. He's being held at the county jail.

Investigation began after victim's friends contacted police

According to prosecutors, the victim's friends reported the sexual abuse to police. Investigators found Baselice bought the teen girl several things, including an electric scooter and a cell phone. He also gave her his credit card number so she could order food, authorities said.

The prosecutor's office is asking anyone with information to call 609-265-5035 and ask for a detective in the Special Victims Unit.
